Paul Skenes, a transfer from the Air Force Academy, is a prime example of how transfers are making a major impact across the college baseball scene.

No player on the LSU Baseball team has made a difference as big as Skenes.

Skenes transferred from Air Force after two seasons because he saw that going pro in the sport was becoming more of a likelihood for him. He has now become the best pitcher in college baseball and is most likely going to be a top-two pick in the MLB draft.

Now holding the No. 2 spot on the list of LSU single-season strikeouts, Skenes finds his name up there with some household names here at LSU.

Here is the current list:

1. 202 Ben McDonald (152.1 IP, 1989)

2. 165 Paul Skenes (86.2 IP, 2023)

3. 159 Anthony Ranaudo (124.1 IP, 2009)

4. 158 Doug Thompson (124.1 IP, 1997)

5. 157 Kurt Ainsworth (130.1 IP, 1999)

6. 156 Eddie Yarnall (124.2 IP, 1996)

T-6. 156 Russel Springer (119 IP, 1988)

7. 150 Scott Schultz 117 IP, 1995)

T-7. 150 Alex Lange (124.1 IP, 2017)

8. 144 Patrick Coogan (125 IP, 1997)

T-8. 144 Ben McDonald (118.2 IP, 1988)

Skenes had made it to the No. 2 spot on this list with the fewest innings pitched, making this accomplishment even more impressive.

Although Skenes is almost to the top of the list, catching Ben McDonald may not be a possibility this season. McDonald sits on top with a whopping 202 strikeouts.
